Cosmetic

As a leading cosmetic dentist in North Jersey, Dadaian Dental is dedicated to making sure your smile is healthy and bright as can be. We offer a wide variety of services to cover all your needs in terms of cosmetic dentistry.

Other services related to cosmetics can include things like soft tissue re-contouring to help with “gummy smiles” and aesthetic composite bondings. In addition to the types of veneers mentioned above, other types of in office veneers are those made from composite resin instead of porcelain or other dental ceramic. At your visit we will discuss all treatment options to help you achieve the smile you want!

Diagnosis & Wax Up

Prior to starting any cosmetic procedures, a diagnosis is always necessary as well as a conversation about treatment options to achieve the desired result. Often for cases involving preparing or bonding to teeth in the aesthetic zone, we will perform what is called a diagnostic wax-up. What that means is that we will take a model of your existing teeth in wax, so that we will be able to show you ideally how your teeth can look after treatment. This is effective for both us as the treating providers, and you as the patient. They say a picture is worth a thousand words and being able to see your completed treatment is very motivating. It also helps us during the fabrication process of treatment. Typically, many options exist to achieve the same result in dentistry and no single best treatment exists for all patients either. The diagnosis and planning of your treatment is just as important, if not more so, than the procedure itself. Appropriate staging and planning gives us the smallest margin of error and highest rate for success. At your appointment your doctor will discuss with you if a wax up is necessary and the available options for you to achieve the smile you want!

While we aim for everything we do in dentistry to look good or be “aesthetic”, aesthetic or cosmetic dentistry, is a term frequently used to refer to a limited set of procedures. Some of these procedures have already been described elsewhere on our site; the only difference is that cosmetic principles apply to teeth in the “aesthetic zone” or typically the upper front 6-8 teeth. Procedures include things like whitening, veneers and  composite resin bondings. You can see examples of these cosmetic procedures completed at our office throughout the site and even in our before and after gallery.

WHITENING

Tooth discoloration is a common side effect of many things such as smoking, drinking (coffee, tea, wine, etc), aging and more. Sometimes the shade is simply genetic but if there is an etiology as to why the teeth have been discolored we try to remove it if possible. For smokers, we offer tobacco cessation counseling and we take special care for more complicated causes of discoloration, such as tetracycline staining.  Once whitening is selected as an option, there are several types of whitening to discuss.

In general they are:

In Office: This treatment is done in 45 minute segments in the office where the teeth are isolated and whitened with the product applied to the teeth. This has shown effective results and is often a great way to jump start your whitening to be followed up at home.

Custom Trays: These are trays that are made to fit your mouth specifically and are worn at home. You are given whitening gel that you apply yourself to the inside and wear to supplement your whitening regimen. The whitening you receive at our office is not available over the counter.

Boost Go! Strips: These are pre-made trays that have strips with the same whitening gel. We especially like these for our patients undergoing orthodontics with clear aligners when the teeth are constantly moving. The strips will adapt to any configuration or arch and are effective as well.

Veneers

Veneers are a very popular service that are conservative and able to treat a wide variety of conditions. Veneers in the traditional sense can be thought of as thin shells of ceramic that are bonded to the outer surface of the teeth to close gaps, permanently whiten, restore tooth anatomy and more. There are two general types of veneers and among those are different subdivisions. They can be made directly or indirectly; in other words, one is done inside the mouth and the other is made outside the mouth (e.g. in a laboratory), then bonded to the teeth. Your doctor will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each.

Indirect veneers can be done by preparing the teeth (shaving down excess enamel) or little to no preparation. Again, each has advantages and disadvantages that will be discussed to see which would be best for your case if you are a good candidate. Other indications for veneers include those with deep intrinsic stains that are not amenable to whitening, correction minimal rotations or similar orthodontic discrepancies, etc.

Crowns

Crowns, while discussed elsewhere on our page as well, take on slightly different characteristics for cosmetic cases. The crowns (colloquially “caps”) cover the entire tooth and can be placed on top of a natural tooth or implant. We take special consideration for aesthetic cases to make them blend with the surrounding dentition. The photo to the left has the patient wearing a lower partial denture that blends seamlessly as well. Our crowns in these areas are typically all ceramic or made from zirconia with porcelain layered on top. Sometimes we will even layer porcelain on high quality gold which also shows very life-like results.
